But Layla was a smart girl and through school she began to realize there was more to the world than the ranch. While she adored her mother who gave her a lot of attention and affection, Layla grew to despise the man who took her away. Her hate intensified each moment he laid hands on her. Given her higher intelligence, it became clear that there was only one way out of her prison. She was 12 when she murdered her own father. One day while working together to clean the stable, she locked him in the stall of their most nervous horse and fired a blank normally used to herd cattle then watched as the horse trampled him to death. With no family left, and no form of social services in rural Homestead at the time, she was placed in Miami foster care. Wanting to rid any trace of her father from her life, she changed her last name to Tahlos -her mother's maiden name. Her secluded early life resulted in Layla living in her own little shell. She was picked on and had a hard time building relationships with other kids. By the time she began high school, she nearly perfected being invisible. High school was where she first became interested in boys. One in particular. Eric Delko was a year older, insanely handsome and she admired him from afar. She didn't assume to ever have a chance with a guy like him but her infatuation didn't cease to develop. Layla observed him and fantasized about him, finding herself hating all the girls he ever laid eyes on. An opportunity to get closer to him presented itself when due to her intelligence, she was placed in an advanced science class. As luck would have it, grabbing the seat next to him on the first day got her assigned as his lab partner. He was sweet and genuinely caring. His attention to her throughout their time in class sparked a serious obsession on Layla's part. |
When Eric left for college, she felt a strange sense of loss and loneliness again. Starting her own senior year, Layla herself was changing. Because of her past, puberty came too early. And too late. While she was familiar with the physical aspect of sex, it wasn't until Eric that she actually felt the desire. With him gone, Layla had a strong urge for fulfillment, which she unsuccessfuly tried to satisfy with one night stands. Convinced that Eric must be different than the rest, Layla followed him to college where she majored in journalism. Her sights continued to be on Eric but he always had a woman on his side. Not until a few years after graduation did she finally get her chance with him. Unfortunately, their relationship went much deeper for her than it did for him. She was pregnant at the time of their break up and the stress resulted in a very early miscarriage. Although he never knew about the pregnancy, Layla was aware her last chance to keep Eric died with that baby. A nervous breakdown was inevitable and Layla ended up in a mental institution. Eventually Layla regained her emotional balance. At least that was what she led the doctors in her facility to believe. Control was the keyword and with her intelligence, she knew exactly what was expected of her. Her obsession remained the same as ever, but suppressing it to deceive everyone was what made the difference. After five years she was released. And her malicious plan for revenge began. Getting a job at The Miami Herald wasn't difficult. While she had excellent references from previous employers, her stay at the institution was kept secret by claiming she had been traveling doing freelance work the past five years. Her need to remain invisible in school after long years of unrequited sexual attention by her father was natural, but now as an adult she refused to be ignored and denied. She wanted to take revenge on Eric, yet the blame wasn't necessarily on him. Her focus mainly turned on the women that have ruined him. First in the line was Myka Scott, whom she blamed for coming between her and Eric. She then systematically went through everyone she could find, even if it was nothing but a fling. No one made the connection between the murders, unlike male serial killers, Layla wasn't out there to attract attention or to make a point. She worked in silence and complete invisibility, her MO different for each victim. After long years of silent rage, Layla's back to prove "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned..." Note: This is a role-playing journal. Layla and her bio are works of fiction. She is not real, you can sleep at night. :) | |
